Think about how warm a lead like that is.
I don’t think Seth Godin does a good enough job stressing how labor-intensive permission marketing is. You have to “Pay the muse by chopping wood and carrying water every single day.” Once you’ve helped hundreds of people, a subset will be looking to you for more help and a subset of those will become buyers.
As usual, the secret is "Demonstrate you can help people, by actually helping people."
Then play the numbers game.
Combine farming in your own garden with answer bombing / farming in other people's garden, piggybacking, and fishing, and watch your lead flow issues disappear.
GLOSSARY
Answer-Bombing / Farming in other people’s garden: Reaching out to members of the audience you wish to serve who’ve got a painful problem and doing the best job you can to help them solve it. This gets you on people’s radar (that person + passive content consumers), and establishes you as the Authority.
Farming in your own garden: Here you take the initiative (and not another person) and create content that’s entertaining, education, or emotion-inciting. The goal is to graduate people from audience members, to being in your tribe, subscribed to your email list, and or become a buyer.
Fishing: The act of reaching out to a lead pool (list of good prospects) and presenting them with “bait”: 1. an introduction (could be personalized), 2. Your positioning statement, 3. A call to action.
Tribe: A term to describe the subset of the people in your audience that “fuck with you.” It could be because of your gender/age, your professionalism or how casual you are, your ideas and how different they are, or a variety of reason. The reason doesn’t matter. What matters is that only a subset of the audience will resonate with YOU. And those are the people you’re looking for.
